Akira Kurusu (
Appearance[]
Akira is a slim young man with short black hair that has bangs hanging on either side.[3]
He usually wears a light-colored suit while at work with a striped tie.[3]
Personality[]
Akira is very serious and always aware of the kaiju threat he analyses. He used to be extremely loyal to Isao Shinomiya, caring about his well-being and even aiding him in his dangerous fight against Kaiju No. 9 to avoid leaving the Director alone.[2] Since No. 9 killed Director General Shinomiya, Akira is the most driven to neutralize it.[1]
Plot[]
Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc[]
When Kafka Hibino revealed his Kaiju No. 8 status and was subsequently transferred to Ariake Maritime Base, Akira witnessed his fighting against Director Isao Shinomiya.[3]
Kaiju Weapon Arc[]
While the First Division was busing fighting Kaiju No. 9 and the Ant-type kaiju in Tokyo, Akira watched the battle from the temporary base with Director Isao Shinomiya, Keiji Itami and Nogizaka.[4] When Kaiju No. 9 appeared to attack Isao and retrieve the power of Kaiju No. 2, Akira asked Isao to evacuate before deciding to aid him in battle against the threat.[5] In the end, Akira stayed there even after Isao's death and was later saved by First Division Captain Gen Narumi from an attack thrown by No. 9.[6]
Power & Abilities[]
Despite not having any combat ability whatsoever, Akira is a skilled Operations Leader and always comes up with the safest way to minimize the damage during fights with kaiju.[5]
Etymology[]
- The name Akira is written in katakana (アキラ), which has no special meaning.
- Akira's surname Kurusu means "coming/come, due, next, since, cause, become" (来, kuru) and "nest, rookery, hive, cobweb, den" (栖, su).
