Chapter Twelve is the 12th chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series.
Summary[]
The bus heading to the monster’s location carries the newly-appointed defense force members, and as they settle in and prepare themselves for their first mission, Soshiro reminds them of their duty. As they are sitting in front of each other, Kikoru refers to what Kafka had told her about his monster form at a restaurant nearby. Despite her shock, Kikoru promised to keep Kafka’s monster identity a secret as he would have to go through intense examination and lose his new job if he were to share it. However, Kikoru tells Kafka that if he were to harm others, she’ll make sure to kill him. With this, Kafka accepts Kikoru’s conditions. Her thoughts are soon interrupted when she looks at Kafka and he is about to barf due to nervousness.
At the base, Leno and Kafka took a look at the monster they are tasked to eliminate and are impressed by its size. Not far away, Soshiro informs the rookies of the monster’s status and their tasks to defeat it. With this, he also reveals that Mina is leading another squad to take care of the base monster, so the rookies would only have to worry about the after-monsters rather than the bigger threat. Before they leave, he wishes them his best regards. After this, Kafka has one last talk with Leno about his excitement to start the mission and Leno shows his support for his friend. Subsequently, Kikoru leaps ahead of Kafka.

- The Third Division drives towards Sagamihara, where the kaiju appeared.
- A flashback shows Kafka and Leno explaining to Kikoru how Kafka became a kaiju.
- Kikoru promises to keep the secret but also to be the one to kill Kafka should he ever threaten humanity.
- At the scene, all the newbies are dispatched in different platoons:
- Kafka and Kikoru are in Hoshina Platoon.
- Leno and Iharu are in Ikaruga Platoon.
- Aoi and Haruichi are in Nakanoshima Platoon.
- Soshiro explains that, as Captain Ashiro takes on the Honju, the platoon's job is to eliminate the Yoju in the neutralization zones.
- The mission officially starts as the officers take on the Yoju.
