Chapter Thirteen is the 13th chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series
Summary[]
After dismissing the rookies to their mission, Soshiro awaits for them to impress him. In the E District, Kafka remarks that he feels oddly calm for such a threat coming his way and follows this by starting to release force. Despite his determination, Kafka gets ignored by the kaiju and Kikoru scolds him for being too lenient. Seeing this, one of the senior members is already exhausted at the prospect of taking care of the rookies. With this, he tells them to get into formation to attack. Positioned on a roof, Kikoru shoots the kaiju with her released force, which surprises the senior member because he didn’t expect a rookie to have such strength. Kafka is also impressed by congratulates Kikoru for her achievement.
At the Ikaruga platoon, Ikaruga leads his group to attack and congratulates Iharu for his great work. After this, Iharu looks to Leno, wanting him to be impressed but sees that Leno caused far more damage than him. Despite this, Leno isn’t cocky and explains to Iharu about the bullet trait he used to dull the kaiju’s movements. Nevertheless, Leno still isn’t satisfied with himself as he doesn’t deem himself strong enough to prevent Kafka’s transformations. In the Nakanoshima platoon, she is proud of her own group’s progress, seeing that Haruichi and Aoi were causing a lot of damage themselves there. Seeing the two interact, Nakanoshima describes the two in exaggerated adjectives and considers officially putting them in her platoon.
Back to the E District, Kafka acknowledges that he is only being a nuisance when seeing his comrades fight but is determined not to cease. As he dissects the monsters, the other defense troupe members are confused at what he is doing and finds a weak spot for attackers to aim at, which is the base of the neck. He informs Soshiro of this, and his platoon leader congratulates Kafka of his discovery. Kafka, proud that he was able to be of some use, is delighted at the idea that he can still have chances to fight by Mina’s side one day. However, his thoughts are interrupted when Soshiro tells Kafka to make way for Mina’s canon as she fires.

- Due to his lack of fighting power, Kafka decides to use his knowledge of kaiju bodies to examine a Yoju's corpse.
- He reveals the location of the core of Fungal-type kaiju to everyone, earning Soshiro's praise.
- He later witnesses Mina shooting down the massive Honju with her cannon.
