Chapter Fourteen is the 14th chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series.
Summary[]
Mina release 96% of her force to shoot the kaiju, which causes an immense amount of damage. Seeing the huge hole she causes in the kaiju, Kafka is extremely surprised. Mina continues to attack with a fourth bullet and silences it after the fifth shot. Kafka is further impressed at how spectacular Mina’s attack looks in person compared to simply watching it on tv. However, his thoughts are interrupted when Soshiro arrives and asks Kafka if he feels demotivated after seeing the huge gap in strength he and Mina had and that he’d have to get as strong as her for Kafka to fight by her side. Kafka, slightly angry, asks Soshiro if he had such strength and he sheepishly declines.
Despite this, he attempts to give reasoning to his answer and admits that his released force for shooting weapons is quite low for larger enemies but that he fares better against medium-sized kaiju. He says this as he slashes a creeping kaiju behind him in a flash, not even looking behind him. After this, he reveals that his family lineage is a clan of talented swordsmen and that because he’s the Vice Captain of the Defense Force, he’s given personalized equipment that suits their individual needs. He ends their conversations by telling Kafka to take care of the countless after-beasts that are birthed after a base monster is taken down. He doesn’t only tell Kafka this and order the order rookies to defeat the after-beasts, which slightly intimidates them.
Seeing their intimidation, some senior members of the Nakanoshima platoon laugh at Haruichi and Aoi but Nakanoshima motivates them to move forward. While observing the platoons, Konomi Okonogi notices that the rookies were quite exhausted as this is their first mission but Soshiro finds this as a way they could evolve. He finds that Kikoru has already developed quite well but that Leno also has potential. In fact, on Leno and Iharu’s side of things, Iharu doesn’t understand why he still got beaten by Leno every time despite having trained so hard. However, his thoughts are interrupted when seeing a disposal crew member complaining about how the monsters’ organs keep getting destroyed and Leno wonders why he is there.
