Chapter Twenty-Two is the 22nd chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series.
Summary[]
In the hospital, Leno is watching the news and it is revealed that kaiju no. 8, or Kafka is the last monster to have received a code name. Seeing Kafka next to him, Leno thanks him for saving him and Iharu. Iharu then surprises the both of them when he asks why Leno is thanking Kafka. Trying to keep Kafka’s identity a secret, Kikoru comes up with the excuse that he helped them find out about the monster’s organs. Iharu then wonders why kaiju no. 8 had helped them, though he is still awed by its great power. After Kafka almost reveals his kaiju identity again, Leno is glad for Iharu’s stupidity.
Not long after, the defense force rookies prepared a welcome back party for Leno and Iharu, as well as to celebrate their mission, which surprises them. The cook from the defense course surprises Kafka in turn with a 6-course meal. Haruichi explains that he asked for the most basic course but because of the chefs’ admiration for his father’s company, he got special treatment. Soshiro then enters the room and wishes the rookies a good celebration.
While watching his co-workers have fun, Leno thanks Soshiro for allowing them to set up the event, but Soshiro only has a smug smile on his face. After this, a fight breaks out between the rookies trying to brag about their own abilities. Although there is conflict, this makes Leno realize that he isn’t the only one urging himself to get stronger. Soshiro then breaks up the fights and promotes Kafka to the third unit of the defense force due to his discovery with the kaijus’ core.
