Chapter Twenty-Three is the 23rd chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series.
Summary[]
Mina appoints Kafka an official member of the defense force and Kafka vows to give his all in battle. As Kafka leaves the room, Mina tells Kafka that he isn’t even close to fighting by her side, but instead of being upset, this determines Kafka to work even harder. However, because he called her by her first name, he is ordered to do 50 push-ups before leaving. Mina also tells Kafka that Soshiro was the one who recommended Kafka to be promoted. In what seems to be the main hall, Kafka is studying and hears someone training nearby. He comes to see who it is and finds Soshiro training as if he went up against kaiju no. 8 (or him) once more.
Soshiro finally notices Kafka observing his training once he falls to the ground out of admiration. Kafka sheepishly asks him about his training but Soshiro seems determined to defeat kaiju no. 8 the next time they meet. Internally, Kafka is extremely scared because of Soshiro’s menacing aura. Soshiro then vows to kill the kaiju. Although he had just been indirectly threatened, Kafka is awed at Soshiro’s drive to protect the troop members. Trying to seem like he had progressed, Kafka assures Soshiro that he will try his best as he knew Soshiro had high expectations for him. Soshiro then sarcastically scolds him. Despite this, Soshiro still ensures 1% of his trust in Kafka.
At Tachikawa base, Kaiju No. 10 is standing on top of a flying kaiju 8000 meters above ground, potentially preparing his next attack.
