Chapter Thirty-Four is the 34th chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series.
Summary[]
While discussing the fact that Kaiju No. 8 turned out to be fellow Third Division rookie Kafka Hibino, Leno Ichikawa, Iharu Furuhashi, Aoi Kaguragi, and Haruichi Izumo are requested to Mina Ashiro's office. Upon arriving, Mina informs them of the Defense Force's plan to temporarily disband the Third Division, and spread the most promising new recruits around, as a way to bring down the boundaries between individual divisions. She also informs them of the Defense Force's fear that the recent emergence of multiple Mega class monsters could be the beginning of something much more dangerous.
Initially reluctant, Iharu is swayed once Leno immediately agrees in the pursuit of becoming stronger, to which Aoi and Haruichi agree.
The final Third Division rookie, Kikoru Shinomiya, is pleading with her father, Defense Force Director General Isao Shinomiya to withdraw what she believes to be the plan to execute Kafka Hibino. Director General Shinomiya brushes aside Kikoru, showing her an x-ray of Kafka's chest, saying that where his heart once was, is now the core of a kaiju, and therefore he is the same as the monster that killed Kikoru's mother. After being dismissed, Kikoru leaves after saying she still wants to believe in Kafka.
Kafka is released of his restraints in his testing room as Director General Shinomiya and a large armed force make their entrance. As Kafka pleads with the chief that he is not a monster, Shinomiya aims a gun at Kafka's head, which he barely manages to block by transforming his arm. Before he can continue to plead his case, Shinomiya crushes a side of Kafka's chest with his bare hands, and squeezes the blood into a test tube, declaring those that are capable of feats such as stopping bullets with their flesh, cannot be called human.
