The First Division (第一部隊, Dai Ichi-butai) is one of the Eastern Divisions in the Defense Force, located in the Ariake Maritime Base.[2]
Overview[]
The First Division is known as the strongest division of the Defense Force, famous even overseas for its exceptional power. The officers serving in the First Division are skilled enough to take down a massive kaiju with ease. Kikoru Shinomiya estimates that each officer has a released force of 40% or higher, making them stronger than Platoon Leader class.[2] Furthermore, each Platoon Leader within the First Division has the potential to become a captain.[3]
The First Division seems to be highly regarded by Director General Isao Shinomiya, as he decided to make it even stronger by having in the First Division both Japan's strongest anti-kaiju combatant Gen Narumi and the benevolent kaiju part of the strongest-class Kafka Hibino.[4]

History[]
Ten years ago, the First Division aided the Second Division in Odawara to neutralize Kaiju No. 6.[13]
Plot[]
Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc[]
Right after Kikoru Shinomiya joined its ranks to become stronger, the First Division fought a massive kaiju in Nagasaki and defeated him with incredible ease, showing Kikoru the skill and the overall power behind its militants.[2] Sometime later Kafka Hibino, also known as Kaiju No. 8, joined the First Division under Director General Isao Shinomiya's orders.[4]
Kaiju Weapon Arc[]
After Kafka and Kikoru's entry in its ranks, the First Division promptly took action in Shinagawa when hundreds of ant-type kaiju,[14] guided by Kaiju No. 9,[8] attacked and threatened the city. In the aftermath, the Ant-types were defeated[15] but Captain Narumi and Officers Shinomiya and Hibino were defeated by the real Kaiju No. 9, after it had managed to kill Director General Isao Shinomiya.[16]
The First Division then attended Isao's funeral at the Ariake Maritime Base, with Nogizaka, Keiji Itami and Kurusu.[16]
The Compatible User Arc[]
The First Division was visited by the Third Division in occasion of the Anti-No. 9 Eastern Divisional Conference at Ariake Base, unleashing some bickering between the two Divisions before Vice-Captain Eiji Hasegawa intervened.[17]
