This is a list of lesser species and types of Kaiju appearing in the Kaiju No. 8 manga, anime and manga spin-off series.
Philinosoma & Trichonephila[]
Philinosoma (フィリノソマ, Firinosoma) and Trichonephila (トリコネフィラ, Torikonefira) are the first Kaiju to appear in the series.
Debut[]
Anatomy[]
Philinosoma stands at the towering height of 60 metres. It has the body of a giant Helodermatidae lizard, with an orange dorso, beige abdomen, and yellow eyes. Its spikes sport light-blue tips that glow around its face when Philinosoma is excited. Its Fortitude level is 6.0[1] (3.5 in the anime).[2]
Trichonephila, despite being Philinosoma's supposed Yoju, looks strikingly different from the Honju. It takes the form of an Arachnid-like creature, standing at 10 meters of height. Its limbs appear to be six violet human-like arms, with yellow and black accents. The body is the same as that of a furry yellow and black spider, while the humanoid head presents jagged teeth, two sets of nostrils, and a pair of round red eyes that move in circular motions like a chameleon's.[1] Its Fortitude level is 2.5.
Plot[]
Philinosoma emerged in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, where it was instantly neutralized by Defense Force Third Division captain Mina Ashiro. Its corpse was later disposed by Monster Sweeper Inc..[1]
After its death, two Trichonephila emerged in the same city later that day. The first one, having a missing limb on its left side, attacked Monster Sweeper workers Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa, before being eliminated by the Third Division.[1] The second one appeared the following night and attacked a woman and her daughter, before Kaiju No. 8 appeared to kill it.[3]
Trivia[]
- Philinosoma is the first Kaiju to have his Fortitude level drastically change from the manga to the anime adaptation. The reason behind this choice remains unknown.
- Trichonephila's design recalls the spider-like Kaiju Kumonga from the Godzilla franchise.
Primigenius[]
Primigenius (プリミジニウス, Purimijiniusu) is the name of an unknown type of Kaiju used in the Secondary Selection Exam of the Third Division.[4]

Anatomy[]
The Honju and its Yoju present a smooth muscular body with no eyes and a row of jagged teeth. They both possess human-like arms and cow-like legs, sporting hooves at the end of their fingers and feet, as well as pointy tails. The Honju is around 6 meters tall and is brown in color, sporting yellow bull-like horns, yellow dorsal spikes, and two stumps on its head after the Defense Force had its Uni-organ removed. The Yoju, who are around 4 metres tall, are white in colour, with a reddish spot on the snout, and their head as an elongated cranium with no horns.[4][5] Primigenius have a hyperdeveloped sense of hearing, compensating for their poor vision, which makes them vulnerable to stunning attacks. Furthermore, their skin is thinner on the underbelly than the rest of their body.[6] Their Fortitude level was 5.4 for the Honju and 2.5 for the Yoju.
After being revived by Kaiju No. 9, the Yoju's body mutated from white to green, while the Honju took a violet color with red spikes and horns.[7] The Honju also gained the ability to fire energy from the regrown Uni-organ on its head, where the power is contained. In this state, their Fortitude level rose to 6.4 for the Honju and 3.8 for the Yoju.[8]
Plot[]
One year ago, Primigenius first emerged in Hachioji, Tokyo, where they claimed 16 victims. Some of the Yoju were then disposed by Monster Sweeper Inc. and Iida Cleaners.[6]
The Third Division later captured the Honju and 36 Yoju to bring to Tachikawa Base as part of the second round of the Defense Force screening exam.[4] Most of the Yoju and the Honju were killed initially by Candidate 2016, Kikoru Shinomiya.[9] However, after their rebirth thanks to Kaiju No. 9's power, the Primigenius came back to life and attacked the candidates once again.[7] It then took Kaiju No. 8's intervention to kill the Honju, and the Yoju with it, again permanently.[10] However, it was then stated on record that Kikoru Shinomiya killed the Revived Honju.
Trivia[]
- The word "Primigenius" comes from Latin and means "first born". It may be a nod to how the Primigenius Kaiju was the first one to be revived by Kaiju No. 9.
- The design of Primigenius is reminiscent of that of the famous Xenomorph from the Alien franchise.
Mixogastero & Phaneroplus[]
Mixogastero (ミクソガステロ, Mikusogasutero) and Phaneroplus (ファネロプラス, Faneropurasu) are a species of Fungal-type (菌類系, Kinrui-kei) Kaiju emerged in Sagamihara. They are the main antagonists of the Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak Arc.[11][12]

Anatomy[]
Fungal-types are kind of Kaiju with round and stocky bodies, with three legs and a peculiar no-eyed head shaped like a mushroom cap.[11] The Mixogastero is a Giant-Class Kaiju being 150 metres tall, with pitch-black skin and vibrant red spots, sporting several mushroom caps all over its dorso. The Phaneroplus Yoju stand between 3 and 7 metres tall and have white smoother bodies with red spots.[11][12]
Located in their near end, even the Yoju have reproductive organs, allowing them to spawn others of their kind from their own corpses.[13] Their core is located in the neck, under the hard-fiber muscles that act like a spine, although Kafka Hibino noted that such spot isn't the place where the core is usually located.[13] It was then revealed that the core's unusual position was a modification made by Kaiju No. 9.[14] The Mixogastero Fortitude level is 7.1, while the Phaneroplus level is 2.3.

Since emerging in the Kannawa fault, Mixogastero has been maturing underground before appearing on the surface for its breeding phase.[11] The Honju and its Phaneroplus Yoju then attacked Sagamihara at daybreak,[11] but they were subsequently defeated by the Third Division.[15]

Preondactyl[]
Preondactyl (プレオンダクティル, Pureondakutiru) is a kind of Wyvern-type (翼竜系, Yokuryū-kei) Kaiju under the command of Kaiju No. 10, who used them to attack Tachikawa Base.[16][17]

Anatomy[]
Preondactyl, as the name suggests, have the shape of violet (orange in the manga) pterosaur/dragon-like reptilians. They stand at 14 metres of height and possess big wings, a long tail, a horn on their beige head and six red eyes, as well as the ability to spit flames and to fly up until 8000 metres above the ground.[16][18] On the frontal part of their body, they tend to have tougher skin to act as a shield while they are flying, whereas the skin of their back has a minimal coating to decrease the weight, making it their weak spot.[19]Preondactyls have shown the ability to fuse with one another to create a massive flying Yoju-bomb out of the bodies of all the wyverns, able to detonate when touching the ground.[20] Each of these Kaiju had a Fortitude level superior to 6.0, making them all Honju-level threats.[18]
Behaviour[]
As noted by Kafka Hibino, due to their immense sense of pride, all Wyvern-types share the habit of acting alone, meaning that seeing them as a pack is quite rare,[18] although they seem to respond to sonar waves.[19] For these reasons a Daikaiju as strong as Kaiju No. 10 can easily command them.[18]
Plot[]
Ever since 2003[19] about only ten Wyvern-type Kaiju have been reported every year.[18] A pack of Preondactyl, guided by Kaiju No. 10, attacked Tachikawa Base and the Third Division.[18] Then, in the climax, they fused together as a Yoju-bomb but detonated in the sky thanks to Kaiju No. 8's intervention.[21]
Trivia[]
- Preondactyl may be inspired by famous Toho Kaiju Rodan from the Godzilla franchise. They share a pterosaur-like design, the ability to spit fire and a belligerent nature.
Third Wave[]
The Third Wave (第三波, Dai Minami) is a species of Daikaiju created by Kaiju No. 9.[22]
Debut[]
Anatomy[]
The Third Wave is a species of building-sized anthropomorphic Daikaiju, with a glowing skeletal white body. Their face is featureless, with loose pieces of skin flapping around it.[23] They can occasionally sport two shining eyes or a huge central cavity, which can release powerful blows of energy.[22] Specimens in the Third Wave have a Fortitude level of 8.0, making it a race of Daikaiju-only specimens.[22]
Behaviour[]
Members of the Third Wave appear silent and thoughtless. Responding to their creator through external signals,[24] this kind of kaiju seems innocuous until ordered to attack. In that case, they obey to their creator's orders immediately and simultaneously.[22]
Plot[]
At some point after defeating Isao Shinomiya, Kaiju No. 9 created this species of kaiju. One of them appeared in the mountainous region of Numata City, Gunma Prefecture, where it was seen by a hunting-club member.[23] Then, during No. 9's nation-wide attacks on the Defense Force, the whole Third Wave appared all over Tokyo to blast away the exhausted officers and slow down Kaiju No. 8.[22]

Ant-type kaiju are massive ant-shaped kaiju with a light-colored spotted body and massive abdomen.[25] They have the power to secrete an acid liquid from their mouth and antennas.[25]
Behaviour[]
They usually travel in packs.[26] According to First Division Captain Gen Narumi, there are rare occasions to encounter Ant-types in tunnel construction work and it's even rarer to see them appearing on the surface, especially in great numbers.[26] This kind of kaiju would also follow the orders of a leader strong enough to command them, like Kaiju No. 9.[26]
Plot[]
A pack of Ant-types, lead by Kaiju No. 9, attacked Shinagawa[25] but they were quickly defeated by the First Division.[27]
Unnamed Mole-Type 67[]
This unnamed species of Mole Type 67 (土竜67型, Mogura Rokujūshichi-gata) Kaiju appeared in a mountain zone and was used as a test for Fourth Division officer Reno Ichikawa.[28]

Anatomy[]
This specific kind of Mole-type Kaiju presents a stocky quadrupedal shape, with its face shaped like that of a talpidae with sharp teeth and two sets of vertical narrow long eyes.[28] The Honju has a Fortitude level of 6.4 and, unlike the Yoju, is much bigger than the others and possess a large spiky collar.[28]It can also spawn spikes on his body and can shoot energy beams from his mouth.[29]
Behaviour[]
This kind of Kaiju appears to be rather aggressive in its own territory, as well as holding on to the same habit for a long period and with a systematic rhythm over time.[28]
Plot[]
According to Fourth Division captain Jugo Ogata, after its first appearance in 1967, from which it takes its name, the Kaiju kept reappearing every five years in the Bunguitoge pass mountain zone.[28] The Mole-Type 67 was targeted by the Fourth Division as a test subject for Reno Ichikawa and his Numbers Weapon 6.[28] All the Yoju and the Honju were neautralized by Ichikawa himself.[30]
Unnamed Lizard-Type[]
This unnamed kind of Lizard-type (爬虫類型, Hachūrui-gata) Kaiju appeared in Ome City and was faced by the Third Division.

Anatomy[]
This kind of Lizard-type Kaiju looks like massive corytophanidae lizards, with long sharp fingers and a noticeable lack of teeth. While juvenile Yojus are almost the size of a house, more mature specimens tower over most houses and sport developed collar organs. The latter kind stores acidic saliva in their collars, to melt what they eat into a mush for digestion. They can also shoot the saliva out of their mouth, with a range of 20 to 40 metres. The Lizard-type Honju is a humongous upright standing lizard, with two sharp veritcal horns above its eyes. As noted by the Ebina Platoon, the core of these Kaiju is in the pharynx.[31]

These Kaiju are particularly ravenous and aggressive towards other life forms, attacking in groups and with great ferocity.[31]
Plot[]
Before Soshiro Hoshina joined the Third Division, a group of Lizard-type kaiju emerged from the mountain region of Ome City. The Third Division, aided by Soshiro, took action to neutralize them.[31]
Unnamed Crustacean-Type[]
This unnamed species of Crustacean-type (甲殻類系, Kōkaku-rui-kei) Kaiju was used as a test of Kikoru Shinomiya's personal weapon.[32]

Anatomy[]
This Crustacean-type possesses the shape of a large orange crab. Even the Yoju's sheels are durable enough to withstand bullets fired by the average Defense Force officers.[33] This Kaiju can bind debris to its back in order to strengthen it, thanks to an amber-coloured adhesive liquid from its Uni-organ that solidifies in contact with air. They're main weaknesses are their joints.[34] The Honju's Fortitude level is 6.2.[32]
Behaviour[]
Crustacean-types tend to hide in structures and only attack when provoked. According to Third Division vice-captain Soshiro Hoshina, they burrow underground to eat from the foundations of houses and then sneak inside. If provoked, they don't hesitate to attack using their pincers. If the Yoju sense a threat much stronger than them, they will flee as fast as possible.[33]
Plot[]
In August last year, a group of four high schoolers heard that a deserted house in the mountains of Isehara City, Kanagawa Prefecture was haunted. On a dare, the quartet visited the house, which started to quake and move as soon as they arrived. From the window, the arm of a Crustacean-type Kaiju burst out and attacked the kids, severing the right leg of one of them.[33] The Third Division took action and attacked the Kaiju on the joints,[33] then deciding to capture the Honju and three Yoju for biolofical exams and Uni-organ analysis.[32]
When, after Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak, officer Kikoru Shinomiya was given a personal weapon, vice-captain Soshiro and captain Mina Ashiro decided to test her skills by having Kikoru face the three remaining Crustacean-types in Training Area Five.[32] Kikoru swiftly used her first personal weapon, a large sword, to eliminate the three Yoju,[33] but then switched to a failed prototype axe to eliminate the Honju.[35] The axe would later become her signature weapon.
Unnamed Plant-type[]
This unnamed species of Plant-type (植物系, Shokubutsu-kei) Kaiju attacked Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture eight years ago, and was faced by the First Division and other young Defense Force talents.[36]

Anatomy[]
This Plant-type Kaiju appears as a huge pod fruit that emerges through the ground, and grows and opens up gradually over time. Once the fruit gathers enough nutrients from the ground it comes to surface, then sunlight grows it until it triggers the pod fruit's release and dispersal of its seeds. To protect the process are a Honju and multiple Yoju deeply rooted around the pod fruit.[36] The Yoju are long branches with sharp-teethed maws at the end, having their core situated in their necks. On the other hand, the Honju appears as a large plant creature with a larger mouth, with larger tentacles that function as arms and a faux core on its chest.[37]
Plot[]
The first Plant-type Kaiju appeared in Hibiya in 1966. Another one then appeared thirty years later in Sendai, managing to spread its seeds and requiring a lot of time to be disposed by the Defense Force.[36]
Eight years ago, a new specimen surfaced in Koshigaya City at the crack of dawn, with the pod fruit growing between the buildings and preparing to release its seeds around 02:00 PM.[36] The First Division, along with young officers from other divisions, faced the Plant-type Yoju from all sides and planned to convert on the pod to destroy it before the due time.[36] Young First Division officer Gen Narumi swiftly eliminated various Yoju before attacking the Honju at the center of the neutralization zone. However, he hit the Honju's false core and was injured as a result.[37]
