Ryo Ikaruga (
Appearance[]
Ryo is a man of average height with messy short dark red hair and a lightning-shaped notch in the middle of his forehead. He has big and wild red eyes with thin zigzagged eyebrows.[2]
On the battlefield, Ryo wears the usual combat suit given to Defense Force officers.[2]
Personality[]
Ryo is an enthusiastic person with a big sense of resposibility.[1] He appears as a serious person, who sometimes gets quite loud.[3] He is able to acknowledge someone's skills and support in battle and praising them when needed.[4] Ryo is such a reliable person that sometimes Vice-Captain Hoshina trusts him with general command tasks over the Division.[1]
Ryo seems to have a rivarly with First Division Platoon Leader Tachibana.[5]
Plot[]
Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak Arc[]
During the Sagamihara Subjugation Operation, Ryo led his platoon, counting Leno Ichikawa and Iharu Furuhashi, in battle.[2]
Raid on Tachikawa Base Arc[]
While defending Tachikawa Base, Ryo was aided by Kafka Hibino, who instructed him on how to defeat Wyvern-type kaiju, and led the soldiers at hand to hold back the monsters.[6] He later witnessed as Kafka Hibino transformed into Kaiju No. 8 to save everyone from a Yoju-bomb.[7]
The Compatible User Arc[]
In occasion of the Anti-No. 9 Eastern Divisional Conference, Ryo and the rest of the Third Division arrived at the Ariake Maritime Base, where they bickered with the First Division.[5]
Cataclysms Arc[]
Ryo and the rest of the Third Division took action in Tachikawa during the No. 9-induced cataclysms.[8]
Power & Abilities[]
Overall Abilities: As a Platoon Leader, Ryo is inferred to be a top-notch Officer of the Defense Force, able to take on multiple kaiju and guide his men in battle with determination.
Etymology[]
- The name Ryo means "clear/help"
- The surname Ikaruga contains the kanji for "rash, spots, unevenness, irregularity, speckles/speckled, inconsistency, mottled" (斑, ika) and "pigeon, dove" (鳩, ruga).
