Personality[]
Soichiro seems to be a rather courageous and quick-thinking individual.[3] As a child, we was very confident of his abilities, to the point of mocking of Soshiro when he sparred with him.[4] However, Soichiro only insulted his younger brother because he was intimidated by Soshiro's potential.[5]
Though he's no longer close with his brother, Soichiro outgrew his fear and can proudly admit that his brother is the greatest swordsman in their clan's entire history. In fact, Soichiro revealed that he secretly admires Soshiro, but stops from reconnecting with him because he feels guilty about his behavior as a child.[5]
History[]
Ever since his childhood, Soichiro has shown remarkable fighting abilities to his relatives during training. He was promptly recognized as the Hoshina Family's ultimate incarnation, striking a sense of inferiority into his young brother Soshiro.[1] During their many sparring sessions together, Soichiro would beat and taunt Soshiro to discourage his attempts at improving, which wound up having the opposite effect over the years.[5]

Soichiro and the Sixth Division took action when Himeji City was attacked by numerous kaiju.
The Second Wave Arc[]
After hearing of vice-captain Soshiro's victory over Kaiju No. 12, he told a subordinate that he knew his brother wouldn't lose, as he was a prodigy with the sword greater than any in his clan, past and present. He refused to congratulate him over the radio, feeling guilty about teasing his brother so much as a child that their relationship broke down completely. Soichiro admitted that he knew even then that Soshiro would surpass him and taunted him to discourage him, only for it to backfire. The Sixth Division then received word of a Daikaiju signature appearing, and he lead his men to engage.[5]
